Sulphur-crested Cockatoo spotted by Mel: “A chook feeding station that is vermin proof. When a chook stands on the aluminium step the lid to the shoe box sized box opens so the chook can access the seed inside. When the chook leaves the step the lid closes. The Cockatoos have learnt to take turns holding the lid open whilst the other cockatoos have a feed on the seed.” in the Big City Birds App on 23.07.2021

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo spotted by Sally: “When we first moved here a year ago the cockatoos were very rowdy when they visited ina group. Lots of squawking, flapping, pecking at each other and bulldozing each other off the railing. When I talked to them and withheld food from bullies, giving priority to the more placid and timid birds, the bossy ones very quickly learnt to copy their behaviour and now we have a very orderly system. Everyone patiently waits their turn.” in the Big City Birds App on 22.07.2021

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo spotted by Megan Smith: “I was unpacking a pallet with our skip open to throw rubbish out. I heard a squawk and when I looked up a cocky flipped his crest up and stuck his wings out and hopped away along the wall behind the bin lid. I kept working and heard another squawk. The cocky was back in the same spot and did exactly the same thing again! This went on for about 10 minutes until another cocky came along and distracted the first one. He was playing with me because at one stage I kept watching and when he started hopping along the wall from behind the lid and noticed I was still looking he quickly hid behind the lid again 🤣” in the Big City Birds App on 23.07.2021
