Plants spotted by A Mile of Sky: “"Gurke leitet sich her von dem altpolnischen ogurek, heute ogórek [ɔˈgurɛk], derselben Bedeutung. Dieses bereits im frühen Mittelalter aus den slawischen Sprachen übernommene Substantiv stammt über das gleichbedeutende mittelgriechische αγγούριον, angoúrion „Gurke“ (vielleicht auch dessen Diminutivform αγγουράκι, angouráki), vom Adjektiv άγουρος, águros [ˈaɣurɔs], „grün, unreif (bei Früchten)“ ab, das sich aus mittelgriechisch ἄωρος, áōros [ˈaorɔs], „unzeitig, unreif“ entwickelt hat. Im Deutschen ist „Gurke“ seit dem 16. Jahrhundert belegt, was zunächst auch eine Melone bezeichnete." 🤓” in the NatureSpots App on 06.08.2023
