Ortsansicht spotted by Torsten Englert: “Im Jahr 1961 wurde mit der Planung zur Errichtung eines Großgerätelagers mit ca. 10.000 qm Lagerfläche begonnen. Am 22. April 1963 begann mit der Arbeitsaufnahme des Vorauspersonals unter der Führung von Major Dr. Bopp die Geschichte des Depots auf dem Wurmberg. Die Stabsstelle befand sich damals jedoch in Ermangelung geeigneter Gebäude noch nicht auf dem Wurmberg, sondern im Gebäude der »Alten Post« (heute Walldürner Straße 15, Elekto-Birnbreier). Mit dieser offiziellen Inbetriebnahme wurde Hardheim zur Garnisongemeinde im Jahr 1963.
Heute dehnt sich auf etwa 22 Hektar Fläche das Areal des Materiallagers auf dem Wurmberg aus, welches früher bei der Eröffnung ein Gerätedepot und später sogar ein Gerätehauptdepot war. Früher befand sich auf einem Teil des Geländes der Steinbruch und die Werkstädten der Firma Hohmann.

Sonstiges spotted by Torsten Englert: “Der „erste Spatenstich“ fand am 8. April 1961 statt. Bis Anfang 1966 wird an der Hardheimer Kaserne gebaut im März 1966 konnte das Richtfest gefeiert werden. Im Juli 1966 beginnt die Belegung der Hardheimer Kaserne, die den Namen „Bauland-Kaserne“ trägt. Am 13. September 1966 präsentiert sich zum ersten Mal das Flugabwehrbataillon 12 der Hardheimer Bevölkerung auf dem Schlossplatz im Rahmen eines Truppenappells mit anschließendem Platzkonzert. Im November 1966 erfolgte die Umbenennung in „Carl-Schurz-Kaserne“. Am Donnerstag, dem 10. Dezember 2015 folgte die Außerdienststellung des Sicherungsbataillon 12, zum Ende des Jahres, welches die letzte Einheit in der Hardheimer Kaserne war. Am 13. September 2015 zogen bis zu 650 Flüchtlinge in die Kaserne ein, als das Land Baden-Württemberg eine Landeserstaufnahmestelle in der Kaserne einrichtete; die letzten Flüchtlinge verlassen die Kaserne am 26. September 2016. Am 4. Oktober 2017 ziehen wieder Soldaten in der Hardheimer Kaserne ein.” in the Landauf, LandApp BW App on 26.01.2021
