Corylus colurna

  • Height: up to 20 m, exceptions up to 25 m
  • Trunk: strikingly fissured scaly bark
  • Leaves: broadly ovate, 5-15 cm long, double serrated, heart-shaped base
  • Flowers: yellow catkins up to 12 cm long, in March/April
  • Fruits/seeds: ball-shaped clusters, edible nuts (approx. 2 cm) with bristly husk
